Las caracolas Mitra deben su nombre a su parecido con el gorro en punta que usan los papas, obispos y otros eclesiásticos. Viven en las aguas cálidas y poco profundas de los mares tropicales del Indo-Pacífico y de las islas Galápagos, y durante el día permanecen ocultas debajo de piedras o corales, pero al llegar la noche se entierran en la arena, y con su largo hocico retráctil, se alimentan de almejas y gusanos marinos.
Miter shells are so named because of their resemblance to the peaked caps sometimes worn by popes, bishops, and other ecclesiastics, most live in the warm shallow seas of the Indo-Pacific and the Galapagos Islands. Miters stay hidden under rocks or coral during the day and burrow in sand during the night, using their long retractable snout to feed on clams and marine worms.
